According to CNN, Cristiano Ronaldo confirms that the 2026 FIFA World Cup will “definitely” be his last.

The 40-year-old soccer superstar would retire in “one or two years” after scoring 953 goals for club and country in his 25-year-long career. He also confirmed his retirement rumours on Tuesday in an interview at the Tourism Summit in Riyadh.

Ronaldo, who currently serves as Al-Nassr‘s club captain, has previously played for Manchester United and Real Madrid. As of October 2025, he has a world-record tally of 143 goals for the Portugal national team and is determined to pursue the milestone of 1,000 goals before the end of his career.

The draw for the upcoming World Cup is scheduled to take place at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on December 5, 2025. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the largest in history with a 48-team tournament and is set to kick off on June 11, 2026 across the US, Mexico and Canada.
