Will Smith's 'The Matrix' Teaser Is Reportedly For His New Music Project
Fans initially speculated his involvement in the new ‘Matrix’ film.
Will Smith surprised fans with a teaser seemingly suggesting he’s starring in the new Matrix movie, but sources are claiming that it has nothing to do with the upcoming Warner Bros. project.
Deadline reports that the 56-year-old is actually working on a new music project, which (if accurate) will mark his first album in 20 years; his last record dates back to 2005’s Lost and Found. Additional details about the project were not revealed, however.
Smith took to social media to share a short visual describing his history with the film series, “In 1997, the Wachowskis offered Will Smith the role of Neo in The Matrix. Smith turned it down. He chose Wild Wild West, believing it was a better fit for him at the time. But the question remains: What would The Matrix have been like with Will Smith as Neo?” It continued with the statements “Wake up Will…” and “The Matrix has you…”
The Matrix went on to become a successful film franchise with Keanu Reeves as Neo. It was announced in April 2024 that the fifth installment is currently in development, with original co-director Lana Wachowski attached as executive producer and Drew Goddard directing. Reeves nor co-star Carrie-Anne Moss’ involvement were not confirmed.
