Instagram Users Can Now Publicly Comment on Stories

Only mutuals, however, can comment on one another’s Stories.

Users can now comment on Instagram Stories. Previously, users could simply send messages to those who had posted Stories, which would appear in their DMs.

Now, comments will be shown publicly for all to see, just like comments on a regular Instagram post, though users can choose to also offer the DM option, depending on their preferences.

Posters will have the option to leave on or turn off comments on their Stories. Anyone who watches the Story will be able to view comments but only those who are mutuals with the poster can write comments, which, like the Story itself, will disappear after 24 hours.

The experience essentially mimics that of Instagram’s live streaming feature, where users are able to leave comments for all to see.
