RAYE Returns With "Deeply Personal" Seven-Minute Track "Genesis"
The single arrives alongside a four-track EP of the same name.
Several months after first previewing the track during her much-discussed 2024 Brits performance, RAYE has returned to drop off “Genesis” on streaming platforms. The seven-minute track, which comes with three additional songs on an EP of the same name, is “both as deeply personal and as raw as I could find myself to be about my own mind and the world I see around me,” said RAYE in a statement.
“There is a Nina Simone quote, ‘It is an artist’s duty to reflect the times’. This quote is everything to me and I believe the best way I can try to do this is through my art and my music,” she added. “The song is a seven-minute piece that I have crafted and scrutinised over the last year and a half, experimenting with different genres and sonic expressions, beneath all the layers and the lyrics, the underlying message is ‘Let There Be Light.’”
The release marks RAYE’s first of the year, coming after her record-breaking wins at the Brits in March. At the award show, she took home a history-making six wins, including trophies for best new artist, best R&B act, British artist of the year, songwriter of the year, song of the year (“Escapism”) and album of the year for her debut LP, My 21st Century Blues.
