The Weeknd took to social media to post a cryptic message about what could be his final album.

The XO Records head hopped on Instagram Story to share a fanpage’s post that featured his “Save Your Tears” performance at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, along with a quote from performance writer Charlie Morse that read, “There was a lot of trust with those cars. He didn’t seem nervous at all, which really weirded us out, because these cars were just barreling by him and he was calm, kept his composure, walked slow and just didn’t look back. It was kind of amazing.” The Weeknd added a brief yet mysterious little comment with the post, writing, “[T]he end is near.”

The artist has yet to clarify what he meant by his post, although many are speculating that he could be saying goodbye to his The Weeknd moniker. In a previous interview with W Magazine, he revealed that he was “getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter.” He added, “The album I’m working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weeknd,” specifying the followup to 2022’s Dawn FM. “This is something that I have to do. As The Weeknd, I’ve said everything I can say.”
