Inspiration for Berriez struck Emma Zack when she was 12 years old, shopping for her Bat Mitzvah, and crying on the floor of Macy’s as she struggled to find a dress to fit her curvy figure. After discovering the values and versatility of vintage shopping – finding specific allure in her grandmother’s closet – she rerouted her retail strategy to predominantly shopping secondhand. She then launched Berriez on Instagram in 2018, and it’s since grown to become a flourishing home for a bevy of size-inclusive vintage apparel. Built on “inclusivity, accessibility and fun,” Berriez recently expanded into reworked vintage and pursues collaborations with independent designers.
Explain your brand to people who may not know you yet.
Berriez is a size-inclusive brand featuring vintage clothing that’s lighthearted and fun, along with reworked vintage and exclusive items by emerging designers. Berriez’s clothing collaborations feature designs that are typically unavailable to plus-sized people. With a focus on women, queer, and POC makers, we’re quickly building a community that feels more confident in what they wear.
What about New York inspires you the most?
The creativity! I love being surrounded by creative people at all times.
What have you got planned at Hypebeast Flea?
I’ll be bringing my favorite size-inclusive vintage and emerging designers! I am so excited to introduce the Hypebeast community not only to Berriez, but also to the amazing emerging designers that we offer!
What other vendors are you looking forward to checking out at Hypebeast Flea?
I am such a fan of Extra Vitamins! I own a few of their shirts! Same with The Series – I love their fun accessories. :-)
