Italian design studio, Draga & Aurel has unveiled a new collection of furniture crafted from layers of colorful lucite. Entitled “Flare,” the 7-piece capsule comprises coffee tables and sculptures.

Founded by Draga Obradovic and Aurel K Basedo, the Lake Como-based design duo is known for their work with color and light. With this collection, the power of light refraction is explored through multi-hued layers of solid lucite. To create each piece, lucite sheets in different shapes and sizes are layered to create different hues. These are then cut and glued to create what the studio describes as “beams of lights” traveling through the object that exudes retrofuturistic appeal.

Speaking on this collection, the duo explained that “The result is multifaceted objects that change from every angle and thoroughly express the concept of a flare, representing intuition, revelation, and discovery.”

The tables come in varying sizes and heights, meanwhile, the totem sculptures are presented as a modular piece that amalgamates furniture with art. Boasting a translucent appearance, every piece seeps with a spectrum of tantalizing hues — some pendulate from dark green and chartreuse to golden yellow, while some are filtered with pops of red, pink, and blue.

Created exclusively for Todd Merill Studio, the “Flare” collection is currently on view at the New York gallery.
