URWERK has unveiled the second installment of its 230 series: the UR-230 Polaris. The new timepiece introduces a radiant white color and a new material to the model, departing from the brand’s traditional palette of black, gray and muted hues.

Crafted from a block of proprietary fiberglass-enhanced ceramic, the 44.81mm-sized case offers a new polar perspective, bringing fresh energy to the collection. This innovation follows the UR-230 “Eagle,” which was made entirely from TPT carbon, marking a significant shift in design intent while maintaining the technical base.

The UR-230 Polaris features a layered ceramic-based composite, with a polymer base housing sheets of woven ceramic intertwined with fiberglass plies. The resin encapsulating the fiber-based sheets is colored white, giving the case a complex, shimmering look that changes with light and angle, encapsulating the almost all-black UR-7.30 caliber.

Martin Frei, URWERK’s art director and co-founder, draws a comparison between the white case of the UR-230 Polaris and the aesthetics of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey and Apollo 11’s design, where white serves as a crucial element for heat shielding in space. This watch, with its combination of elegance and futuristic design, includes a sophisticated version of URWERK’s revolving satellite complication. The three-armed carousel holds four-hour numerals, which scroll along a 120-degree section, displaying the current hour prominently.

With its trapeze-shaped case design, elongation towards the 6 o’clock position and clever management of angles, the timepiece retains URWERK’s distinct aesthetic, complete with a white ceramic case with a black DLC titanium caseback and vulcanized rubber strap.

The UR-230 Polaris has a price point of 150,000 CHF (approx. $169,008 USD). For more information regarding its availability, head over to URWERK’s official website.
