DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn took to Instagram Threads recently to defend the decision to delay the release of the caped crusader sequel, The Batman 2 from Matt Reeves.

The Robert Pattinson-starring film was delayed once again, this time to 2027. Gunn wrote on Threads, “To be fair, a 5 year gap or more is fairly common in sequels.” He drew comparison to other films like Alien and Aliens as well as others, to justify the new timeline, “7 years between Alien and Aliens. 14 years between Incredibles. 7 years between the first two Terminators. 13 years between Avatars. 36 years between Top Guns. And, of course, 6 years between Guardians Vol 2 and Vol 3.”

Following the news of the delay, Gunn took confirmed that the reason was because “there isn’t a full script.” After the script is finished, fans should expect two years of pre-production then shooting and post-production before it releases in theaters. He said, “Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there is around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films.” Fans have taken to Threads to respond to Gunn sharing memes that clarify their disappointment and mixed reactions to the delay. Take a look at what Gunn had to say in full below.
