Breguet's New Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887 Is Outfitted in Platinum

Breguet has unveiled the Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887, a new addition serving as the technical flagship model to the Maison’s Marine collection.

Featuring a 44mm case size, the timepiece is outfitted in a platinum build and paired with a wace-shaped crown guard. The black dial follows through with the nautical theme, featuring a center with a hand-guilloché wave pattern.

The spotlighted feature for this time-teller is its three high-end mechanical complications, spanning the Equation Marchante (running equation of time), perpetual calendar and a tourbillon. The Equation Marchante is geared with two minute hands to provide a simultaneous reading for the difference between mean solar time and true solar time. Mean solar time is indicated by a Breguet-style hand with a lumed tip, while true solar time is read by the gold-plated and fluted ring-tipped hand.

An embodiment of technical prowess and artisanal delicate arts, the open caseback is a mesmerizing spectacle on its own. Offering a glimpse of its innerworkings, the entire back depicts a hand-chiseled image of the 1752  Royal Navy warship, Royal Louis. Its 581DPE caliber is wound by a platinum peripheral rotor with wave motifs, while the barrel becomes a compass rose through detailed engravings.

The Marine Tourbillon Équation Marchante 5887 is paired with a black textured rubber strap, complete with a triple-blade platinum folding clasp. Available for inquiry through Breguet, the timepiece is priced at 249,800 CHF (approx. $286,931 USD) — a price tag that befits its complexity and high-end specifications.
