Benzilla Unveils 'Goood Luck: Glitter Gaze' at Tang Contemporary Art Bangkok
Inspired by the artist’s desire for viewers to “slow down, stay present and reconnect with their surroundings.”
Tang Contemporary Art Bangkok is hosting Benzilla‘s new solo exhibition, Goood Luck: Glitter Gaze, running from the time of publication to December 15, 2024. Featuring over 20 works, including new sculptures and paintings, the show invites viewers into the contemplative world of Benzilla’s signature three-eyed character, LOOOK.
Benzilla’s recurring theme of “good luck” emerges as a heartfelt Thai-language farewell expression: “Chôhk Dee” and a reflection of hope. This ethos resonates throughout his works, which channel memories, emotions and moments of introspection. The artist’s creations balance vibrant visual storytelling with deeper philosophical exploration, inspired by the ancient Greek concept of theoria — a blend of contemplation, theory and self-awareness.
Central to the exhibition is LOOOK, a character representing observation and inner reflection. With its three overlapping “O” eyes, LOOOK embodies a gaze that goes beyond surface-level perceptions. Benzilla’s artistic vision is further enriched by his exploration of color, where his colorblindness adds a unique tension and depth to his palette. Early works showcased bold hues inspired by street art, while his recent pieces employ softer tones, reflecting a calmer approach.
“This exhibition reflects my wish for people to slow down, stay present, and reconnect with their surroundings,” shared Benzilla. Through LOOOK, the artist bridges external experiences and internal peace, offering a whimsical yet deep narrative shaped by his encounters with people, events and emotions.
