Zodiac and Rowing Blazers Bring the Fictional GMT Watch From ‘Trading Places’ to Life

Zodiac and Rowing Blazers have joined forces once again on another exclusive watch collaboration. At the heart of this release is a whole new reference with a tongue-in-cheek twist: the Super Sea Wolf World Time GMT watch.

Drawing inspiration from the 1983 classic comedy, Trading Places, the collaborative timepiece is developed based on the fictional GMT that Louis Winthorpe III (played by Dan Aykroyd) pawned off in the film. Accompanying the watch is a delightful campaign featuring Adam Scott, posing in place of Aykroyd as his character in a series of images that recreates the mugshots from the film.

Appearance-wise, the timepiece may not look identical to the movie’s fictional GMT watch, but it does come with some of its quirky features.  Measuring 40mm in diameter, the stainless steel watch case spotlights a cobalt blue rotating bezel with a world time outer ring that reads time across 27 cities — from Monte Carlo, Beverly Hills, London, Paris, Rome, and Gstaad. Its black dial is fitted with Zodiac’s usual geometric indices and handset, all coated with Super-Luminova for dial visibility in low-light conditions.

It’s equipped with a water resistance of up to 200 meters (or 20 atmospheres) and runs a Swiss-made STP7-20 movement. In addition to its Jubilee-style metal bracelet, the watch also comes with a limited-edition #tide strap crafted from recycled ocean plastic.

Ryan White, Zodiac’s senior creative director comments, ”Rowing Blazers is one of our favorite teams to collaborate with. We were inspired by a watch featured in an iconic movie from the 1980s that was able to tell time simultaneously around the world. We designed this to be a fun celebration of 80s nostalgia and world travel but also easy to wear and utilitarian in nature.”

Available now via Rowing Blazers and Zodiac, the Super Sea Wolf World Trade GMT is released as a 282-piece limited edition, with a retail price point of $2,195 USD.
