As the week in music comes to a close, Hypebeast has rounded up the best projects for the latest installment of Best New Tracks.
This week’s lineup is led by Kid Cudi with Travis Scott and Pharrell, Megan Thee Stallion and Kevin Abstract, who each released the singles “At The Party” and “Cobra” and the album Blanket, respectively. Also joining this selection are offerings from The Alchemist, the final song from The Beatles and UMI, and collaborations from Benny the Butcher with Lil Wayne and Larry June with Cardo and Blxst.
Kid Cudi x Travis Scott x Pharrell – “At The Party”
Kid Cudi reunites with Travis Scott and Pharrell for his newest single, “At The Party.” Produced by Skateboard P and Jean Baptiste, the cut arrives as an inconspicuous but bewitching track that’s sure to be put on repeat.
Megan Thee Stallion – “Cobra”
Megan Thee Stallion is back with “Cobra.” Like the titular animal, she sheds her skin and opens up about rising above the private and public struggles she’s been facing the past few years. She also makes it a point to note that she’s ready to take on the game once again.
Kevin Abstract - Blanket
Kevin Abstract delivers his first solo studio effort in four years, Blanket. The project also marks his first release since the breakup of BROCKHAMPTON in 2022, and hears him dive into his childhood. “Everything is more magical back then,” he shares in a statement. “Going to Disney and sleepovers, the imagination, hearing certain songs for the first time—all that stuff just feels epic.”
The Alchemist - Flying High, Pt. 2
The Alchemist drops off his newest EP, Flying High, Pt. 2. The project features guest appearances from Conway The Machine, Action Bronson, Curren$y, and Gangrene, and follows his 2 BET Hip Hop Awards nominations.
The Beatles – “Now And Then”
The Beatles’ final song “Now And Then” is here. The track features the original recorded vocals of John Lennon alongside electric and acoustic guitar recorded in 1995 by the late George Harrison, a new drum part from Ringo Starr and bass, guitar and piano from Paul McCartney, who also added a slide guitar solo inspired by Harrison.
Benny the Butcher x Lil Wayne – “Big Dog”
Benny the Butcher links with Lil Wayne for “Big Dog,” his newest single produced by The Alchemist. The track serves as the prelude to EVERYBODY CAN’T GO, the Griselda co-founder’s forthcoming new album set to release early next year.
UMI – “Why Don’t We Go”
UMI announces her upcoming EP talking to the wind, which drops January 19, with her new track “why don’t we go.” She says of the song, “This song is about enjoying your eternal youth, to be playful, to be free, to not think so much about life. Through the lyrics I paint a scene of me falling in love with someone I met for the first time, dancing through the night and forgetting my parents advice. ‘why don’t we go’ is me inviting myself and the other person to just let go and to live for the sake of living—even if it’s just for one night.”
Larry June x Cardo x Blxst – “Without You (Blxst Interlude)”
Larry June and frequent collaborator and producer Cardo continue the rollout for The Night Shift with “Without You (Blxst Interlude),” featuring Blxst. The Night Shift will mark June’s first project since The Great Escape, with its release date coming soon.
