Nissan Shares First Look at Luxury EV Van Concept: "Hyper Tourer"
Designed with fully autonomous capabilities in mind.
Nissan has introduced its latest electric vehicle (EV) concept, the Nissan Hyper Tourer, ahead of the Japan Mobility Show scheduled to take place on October 25. This unveiling marks the third innovative EV concept from Nissan, designed to emphasize premium mobility and a refined driving experience aimed at fostering social interactions among occupants.
The Hyper Tourer aims to combine traditional Japanese aesthetics with cutting-edge automotive technology and according to Nissan is a van concept “geared toward individuals who appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy the company of friends and associates. Another consideration in the vehicle’s concept is the ethos of omotenashi, the heart of Japanese hospitality, which is hoped to be achieved through the notable integration of autonomous driving capabilities.
Another standout tech advancement of the Hyper Tourer is its Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) functionality coupled with a high-capacity battery system. This feature enables a seamless driving experience and also allows the vehicle to supply electricity to homes, stores, and offices during travels and business ventures.
As for the design of the vehicle’s exterior, it features smooth body panels and sharp character lines embodying traditional Japanese beauty, while ensuring aerodynamic efficiency. The interior, on the other hand, is designed to be a luxury space, achieved through Nissan’s EV Technology Vision. This vision incorporates compact components and high-energy density all-solid-state batteries resulting in an ultra-low center of gravity which, along with the advanced e-4ORCE all-wheel control system, makes for smooth handling on the road.
Notable design elements found in the cabin include traditional Japanese kumiko and koushi patterns. Additionally, the vehicle includes 360-degree swiveling front seats facilitating face-to-face interactions among occupants, thereby promoting a socially engaging driving experience — with the help of autonomous driving of course.
Nissan also hinted that the Hyper Tourer concept would include a sophisticated AI system that will monitor occupants’ biometric signs and adjust the ambiance accordingly.
More details on the Hyper Tourer and the two other EV concept cars from Nissan are expected to be revealed soon, as the automotive brand approaches the vehicles’ debut at the Japan Mobility Show.
