Over the next few months, Google Maps will continue to expand its “Immersive View” feature, adding more photorealistic video renderings of locations in major cities across the world — all within the app. As of today, Maps offers AI-generated aerial views of more than 250 major landmarks including Tokyo Tower, Big Ben, the Empire State Building, and the Colosseum in Rome.

Fusing together billions of Street View captures and aerial images, Google has created a digital model of the world allowing users to better scope out new areas and make informed travel decisions. Functions soon to come include a time slider showing what each area looks like at different times of the day and under varying weather conditions. The feature will also reveal the live busyness and nearby traffic of specific restaurants and locations.

Immersive View can now be accessed directly from google maps using any smartphone and begins rolling out in Los Angeles, London, New York, San Francisco, and Tokyo. Stay tuned for more updates.
