ERDEM's SS23 Men's Collection Pays Respect to Artist Cedric Morris' Benton End Refuge
Taking cues from the palette of Morris’ portraits and still-life arrangements at the Suffolk house.
Following the launch of its first-ever menswear collection in November of last year, London-born fashion label ERDEM has expanded its men’s offerings with a dedicated Spring/Summer 2023 range.
For this collection, founder and creative director Erdem Moralioglu sought sartorial inspiration inside the world of artist and plantsmen Cedric Morris at Benton End in Suffolk. The location served as the backdrop for the line’s lookbook, paying tribute to the creative’s refuge, where he painted, gardened and mentored a slew of artists and writers alongside his lifelong partner Arthur Lett-Haines (Lett).
The collection takes cues from a series of photographs of the couple in the outdoors together, while pumping signature elements from the palette of Morris’ portraits and still-life arrangements into each piece. Suits employ white corduroy and unlined linen for a lightweight, warm-weather-ready silhouette, while trousers receive wide-legged cuts and shorts dip below the knee.
Cropped jackets pair with berets and billowing bowties, in homage to Lett’s coined style, while silk pajama sets and patchwork bathrobes are captured in Benton End’s garden, recalling summer mornings spent there. For evening wear, the collection introduces mohair jumpers and Breton knit-tops, fittingly tucked into linen pants.
