MAXIME's "CARVED" Collection Explores the Power of Wood
Inspired by wooden floors, furniture, and dinnerware.
the U.K. is currently bursting with emerging fashion brands that are proving that independence is the way forward. And while the streetwear scene is currently the healthiest its ever been — thanks to brands such as Corteiz, Unknown, and PICANTE — there’s also a bunch of contemporary designers that are showcasing their talents on social media and thus, garnering big followings across the country and beyond. One contemporary label that is doing things in its unique way is MAXIME. Earlier this year, the London-based imprint presented “THE ESCAPE” which was a collection that made its debut at Pitti Uomo’s Spring Summer 2022 Sustainability Showcase, as well as at Paris Fashion Week. Now, the label has unveiled its latest drop entitled “CARVED” and it’s a celebration of wood and the material serenity, adaptability, and warmth that is associated with the material.
For this latest Fall/Winter collection, MAXIME has taken to the “Sunken House” — a contemporary, dark-stained building that was designed by respected architect, David Adjaye. With this in mind, the new garments take inspiration from wooden floors, furniture, dinnerware, and decorative projects across a variety of knitwear, boxy blazers, tailored trousers, and outerwear styles. A collection highlight is the wood textured crewneck sweater that’s crafted from 100% merino wool. The relaxed-fit jumper also comes designed with a multicolored jacquard print throughout as well as a ribbed neck, hem, and cuffs. Other stand-outs come in the form of the jacquard jacket that comes with a multicolored wool design and a zip closure on the front. Rounding off the design, the jacket comes with button closure on the cuffs as well as side pockets with a brown cotton lining. For the rest of the collection, MAXIME has included a collection of T-shirts, trousers, shirts, accessories, and footwear.
