As the world of fashion continues to seek alternative ways of showcasing its seasonal offerings, British and Indian-Nigerian designer Priya Ahluwalia delivers a stunning short-film as part of her Fall/Winter 2021 London Fashion Week presentation.

Enlisting the sounds of jazz-electro musician Cktrl, Ahluwalia premieres Traces, a short-film directed by Stephe Isaac Wilson which aims to capture the spirit of brotherhood and unity seen in the garments through synchronised movements.

Over the last year, Ahluwalia has taken the opportunity to grow her personal library. Yaa Gyasi’s Home Going made a particular impact on the designer, so much so it spurred her on to look at migration as a societal process that leads to new ideas and new schools of thought.

Reflected in the designs for FW21, Ahluwalia takes upcycling to the next level through the versatility of the garments, as puffer jackets become reversible, and contrasting textiles combine into one. Patchwork button-ups bring together bamboo silk with deadstock shirting, while the graphic jumpers are made in a mix of repurposed knit and sweatshirt fabrics.

You can view Traces above, while Ahluwalia’s FW21 collection is set to launch in the near future and will be available from the brand’s online webstore.

In other news, KEENKEE FW21 translates deadstock fabric into contemporary silhouettes.
