Renault's AIR4 Is a Flying Car for the Not-so-Far Away Future

Renault continues to celebrate the 60th anniversary of its iconic 4L car with the unveiling of the AIR4, a flying car made in association with the forward-thinking design studio, TheArsenale.

Following on from Mathieu Lehannuer’s “SUITE N°4,” which was essentially a hotel room on wheels, comes this flying car concept that maintains plenty of what made the 4L so loveable, but reinterprets it for a future without conventional roads. Instead, as suspected, this car flys and is powered by 22,000mAh lithium-polymer batteries that generate 90,000mAh of power, which is enough for a horizontal top speed of 26m/s, with a 45° inclination during flights, up to a maximum inclination of 70°.

Capable of flying at heights of up to 700m, the AIR4 is a futuristic concept flying car that — actually — doesn’t feel too extreme or out-there, and instead could be entirely feasible one day. It’s made from carbon fiber to keep the weight low, and is comprised of a body that sits within the center of four two-blade propellers.

The car will also be on show at Atelier Renault on the Champs Elysées in Paris from November 29 until the end of the year, alongside other historic versions of the Renault 4, before heading to Miami, New York, and Macau in 2022.
