Peacock has offered a new teaser of its reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The hourlong series comes from Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith‘s Westbrook Studios and is based on Morgan Cooper’s popular fan film that re-examines the original series.

The Peacock version is set in present-day America where Will Smith’s character is played by Jabar Banks. Paying an homage to the original persona, Banks wears Jordan’s while dancing to the theme song. The one-hour-long project leans on the original premise from the ’90s which follows Will’s journey from West Philadelphia to the gated community of Bel-Air. While it is dictated as a coming-of-age story, the show also “celebrates the strength and love of the Black family.”

T.J. Brady and Rasheed Newson, executive producers discusses the series stating, “We have stayed true to the original premise of the legacy series – Will’s life is turned upside down after he is forced to leave West Philly and lands in Bel-Air with its gated mansions and wealth, however, our new series brings Will and the Banks family into the world as we know it now. It’s been incredible to bring these iconic characters to life when you tap them into the cultural pulse of our time. The series was the fabric of so many of our upbringings, tied to memories and the joy of seeing ourselves represented on TV so it is important to us to pay respect to its legacy.”

Peacock’s The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot arrives on the streamer in 2022.

In other entertainment news, Amazon Studios is reportedly close to making Mass Effect into TV show.
