The official trailer to Paul Greengrass‘ upcoming film News of the World has arrived.

Based on the novel by Paulette Jiles, the upcoming Western stars Tom Hanks as a Civil War veteran named Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd, who travels across America to tell non-fictional stories about presidents, queens, international feuds, world disasters and other news to small-town folks. Kidd’s journey is unexpectedly joined by Johanna, a 10-year-old girl, to find her biological aunt and uncle. Beyond directing the film, Greengrass also penned the script, alongside Luke Davies, while James Newton Howard, an eight-time Oscar-nominated composer, wrote the score.

News of the World is set to hit theaters on December 25 — scroll above to watch the official trailer.

In case you missed it, Tom Hanks is in talks to play Geppetto in Disney’s live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.
