No Two Pairs of the Jaden Smith x New Balance Vision Racer "Surplus" Are Exactly the Same
However, each is constructed of surplus textiles and synthetic leather — and is 100% vegan-friendly.
Jaden Smith and New Balance‘s Vision Racer has always had its sights set on sustainable style, but now it’s ramping up its environmentally conscious efforts even further with a new “Surplus” makeup. Constructed entirely of surplus textiles and synthetic leather, the “Surplus” is 100% vegan-friendly — and most interestingly, no two pairs are exactly the same.
This one-of-one nature is made possible by the use of excess fatory materials. As seen above, each panel is a different color: you may wind up with a tan toebox, blue accents and pops of hot pink around your shoe’s eyestays, or the look might be entirely different from what’s pictured. A few things that are constant besides the sustainable nature of the construction, however, are blocky midsoles made of reground EVA foam, partially recycled insoles made of castor bean oil plus recycled foam/rubber and pink ((VISION)) hits both under the outsole and on the upper’s trim.
Following August’s “Wavy White” and July’s inaugural “Wavy Baby Blue” colorways, the Jaden Smith x New Balance Vision Racer “Surplus” will release exclusively on the Greenhouse app come October 23. The MSRP is set at $150 USD.
