Reebok Japan Again Revives Beatnik Sandal for Summer '19
’90s model arrives in four distinct makeups.
December saw the unprecedented return of Reebok‘s forward-thinking Beatnik sandal, albeit in a winter-ready variation that was lined with fleece. For Summer ‘19, the Japanese branch of the sneaker company is once again bringing the strappy sandal to life, reissuing the blunt silhouette in a quartet of styles.
Though the Beatnik didn’t make it overseas during its initial Western release in 1993, demand for the shoes grew so high in Japan that a small resale market emerged around the sandal, with prices skyrocketing over the smaller, Japanese-friendly sizes. Offered in black/grey, olive/black, light sax/black and white/light grey/gum, each variation of the beefy shoe stands tall atop a grippy ripple outsole, recalling the Beatnik’s original intention as a hiking sandal. All of the colorways sport a contrasting outsole, black midsole and synthetic suede upper, complete with center seam and adjustable strap closure.
The limited edition Reebok sandals arrive on mita sneakers’ site June 22.
Recently, mita joined CLUCT and Airwalk for a muted flame-covered Scorch SP sneaker.
