It is no secret that some African countries have a rich and tuneful tradition of excellent Funk Music. Always in the know Analog Africa has now compiled over a dozen of summer-friendly songs from 1970s Ghana and Togo, curated by label head Samy Ben Redjeb. The project is titled Afro-Beat Airways: West African Shock Waves and will certainly heat up this season. Hear an audible teaser in the shape of De Frank Professionals’ “Afe Ato Yen Bio”. The title can be roughly translated as “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year” since the group from Ghana is complaining about a tough period of time and celebrating a new beginning.
