Sony Aims to Reintroduce the Classic Vinyl Sound
Record production to kick off in 2018.

To the sheer joy of old school vinyl heads far and wide, Sony has announced its intent to revisit producing physical records for the first time in nearly three decades. With sales reaching a 25-year high just last year, vinyl’s rising popularity has set some milestones both in the U.K and in the U.S., with 17.2 million units shipped in 2016 alone.
Production is set to kick off in March of next year at a plant in Japan’s Shizuoka district. Although specific music genres have yet to be officially confirmed, it is believed that popular Japanese songs as well as current hit albums are said to be included. To help ensure a smooth transition while keeping the quality of sound at optimal levels, Sony is currently looking into bringing in experienced record engineers to pass on their knowledge and expertise.
