Skrillex Responds to Lawsuit Claiming Justin Bieber's "Sorry" Was Stolen
“Sorry but we didn’t steal this.”
Skrillex says that he didn’t steal “Sorry” from anyone. This is in response to allegations that he had stolen parts of singer/songwriter White Hinterland’s song, “Ring The Bell.” Also known as Casey Dienel, White Hinterland slapped Justin Bieber and Skrillex with a lawsuit claiming that “Sorry” features a similar melody in addition to “unique characteristics of the female vocal riff.”
Skrillex’s tweet reads, “SORRY but we didn’t steal this.” In an accompanying video, he plays the raw vocals from original songwriting sessions and shows how he manipulated the vocals to create the riffs. Justin Bieber retweeted Skrillex’s video, with the hashtag “#wedontsteal.” Bloodpop, who co-produced the song, also retweeted the message.
