Listen to a Rare, Unreleased Phife Dawg Freestyle from 1999

Tim Westwood‘s “Throwback Thursdays” series is taking a bittersweet tone this week. After liberating freestyles from esteemed emcees like Eminem and Yasiin Bey/Mos Def, Westwood shares a vintage freestyle session from the recently-passed A Tribe Called Quest legend Phife Dawg. The clip comes to us courtesy of a 1999 back-and-forth between Phife, Madlib and Wildchild, and has not seen the light of day until now. You can check out the entire session below. Phife Dawg passed away earlier in the week after a longtime battle with diabetes.
