Listen to the interview here.

With the release of his debut solo single “Pillowtalk,” which is currently sitting on No. 2 on iTunes, many people have been talking about Zayn Malik‘s new direction and sound. Recently, he phoned into Zach Sang and the Gang‘s radio show for an interview, where he talks about the inspiration behind the single. Zayn shared:
“Basically, I wrote that shortly after I left the band. I Got in the studio with a couple of writers that go by the name of Mike and Anthony Hannides. They’re a cool guys from London. We wrote that song around the time that I was feeling those emotions and I feel like that’s why it came out the way it did. I feel like in the vocal you can get a sense that I’m meaning what I’m saying. [...] I wanted it to be representational of the art that I’m looking at at the minute, even just a perspective level, on the surface of it I wanted it be arty, and different and out-there. That was the whole feel for the video, We wanted a dream-feel to it.”
Listen to the interview below and look out for his solo debut album – Mind of Mine – which will arrive on March 25 via RCA Records.
