The Weeknd is Being Sued Over "The Hills"
Looks like there’s trouble brewing for The Weeknd and company.
With success comes struggle. With The Weeknd enjoying a career high, Abel has just been confronted with a copyright infrigement lawsuit. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the lawsuit is a result of “The Hills,” which Cutting Edge Music Limited alleges features an illegal sample of the score for the sci-fi flick The Machine. The suit is based on an “alleged direct message” delivered to Tom Raybould via Twitter. Raybould is the artist responsible for the score for The Machine, and it is alleged that he was contacted by “The Hills” co-producer Million Dollar Mano. The message is alleged to have contained the following:
“I sampled your music might make it 2 the weeknd next album. Huge fan of what u did 4 the machine movie!”
Illangelo, Belly, Universal Music Group and Republic Records are also included in the lawsuit, which demands compensation and an injunction. Read more about the case at The Hollywood Reporter.
