NetherRealm has officially announced Mortal Kombat 11. Revealed at The Game Awards, it came with an official trailer that showcased Scorpion and Raiden fighting each other in typically gory fashion, killing each other repeatedly.

The game also has a new feature called custom character variations. NetherRealm describes the new system as giving you “unprecedented control to customize the fighters and make them your own.” Ed Boon, Creative Director of NetherRealm Studios has stated:  “our Custom Character Variation System opens up an infinite amount of options for players to personalize their favorite fighters. We can’t wait until January when we’ll be showing more of the game.”

There’s also a new graphics engine and a cinematic story mode. The trailer also reveals that a pre-order allows you to get Shao Kahn and beta access, with a full reveal due on January 17. Mortal Kombat 11 will be released on April 23 on PC, Xbox and PlayStation 4.

In related news, Capcom announced it plans to bring in-game ads to Street Fighter: Arcade Edition.
