Back in 1999, Jim Carrey carried out one of his most underrated performances as Andy Kaufman in his Man on the Moon biopic. During filming, the movie was slammed by rumors of Carrey going a bit too overboard with his method acting, causing his supporting cast to become uncomfortable. Kaufman was notoriously an eccentric provocateur and Carrey’s behind-the-scenes antics emulating the figure on Man on the Moon threatened to derail the production.
Hours of unseen footage remains from the film, which will all come to light in a new Netflix documentary produced by Spike Jonze called Jim and Andy: The Great Beyond. The documentary explores the artistic process of filmmaking and Carrey’s newfound outlook as an actor, who has spent the past few years out of the limelight. Check out the trailer above, share your thoughts in the comments below and tune in to the documentary November 17.
