Valentino Channels Iconic Painter, Francis Bacon for Its 2017 Fall/Winter Collection

Valentino‘s men’s 2017 fall/winter runway show was recently held at the Hôtel Particulier d’Iéna in Paris for the city’s fashion week. The season’s design inspiration comes from renowned painter Francis Bacon, whose style can be described as raw, visceral, and often-times grotesque. However, Valentino finds a way to meld these striking characteristics with the brand’s refined direction.
For the color story, we see a spectrum of dark and bright hues that you might find from the Irish-born artist’s works – they include blacks, blues, pinks, oranges, and even light-green. Furthermore, there’s the element of distortion at play here for that abstract touch — there are cut-out alphabet motifs featured throughout, as well as colorblocking, unique plaid patterns, and glitched-out accessories.
