'The Discovery' Examines How Humanity Would Deal With Proof of the Afterlife

How would modern human civilization deal with the consequences of discovering proof of the afterlife? A new film set to debut at Sundance and Netflix in the near future is set to examine the issue, using a romantic relationship as a way to explore the many possibilities of a world with scientifically-based knowledge of “the next life.” Directed and co-written by The One I Love director Charlie McDowell, The Discovery stars Rooney Mara and Jason Segel as a love-struck couple “coming to terms with their own tragic pasts.” With millions committing suicide in order to discover the “realities” of the afterlife, Segel and Mara’s characters stand as two individuals attempting to enjoy the beauties the current life has to offer.
