Space Caviar's Mantova Installation Provides a Floating Cultural Venue for the City
A modular archipelago.
Named the 2016 Italian Capital of Culture, Mantova has seen the construction of floating platforms that will enable its citizens to be at one with the city’s waters. Titled Arcipelago di Ocno after the local demigod, the aquatic installation consists of an archipelago of modular units. Designed by Genoa-based studio Space Caviar, the aquatic piazza assumes the form of a lotus, a plant found all throughout Mantova’s lakes. The circular platforms can be reconfigured, relocated, or extended, and will expand in the coming years to host performances, screenings, lectures and other such cultural events.
