In an era of cutbacks in terms of menswear runway shows, sacai’s Chitose Abe made a renewed pledge for her men’s line by taking a bow at the end of the show for the very first time. Her clothes this season also seemed to echo the chaos both within menswear and the world in general, with the clothes taking on a distinct influence from Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, what with the innumerable bowler-style hats, bone-white bombers, T-shirts emblazoned with Nadsat terms, and bovver boots making their way down the catwalk. Adding to the unsettling undertones was the prevalence of quietly violent colors such as garish purples and pinks, alluding to ’80s-era colorways while remaining distinctly in the present.
