Blood Orange and His Friends Vogue on Rooftops in the Visual for "Augustine"
Blood Orange offers a visual ode to summer in New York.
Devonté Hynes, perhaps better known for his work under the moniker Blood Orange, released his new album and sonic “clapback“ Freetown Sound on June 27. The release came three days early and yet was still long overdue: it is Blood Orange’s first LP since the the success of 2013’s Cupid Deluxe, a love-letter to ’80s synthpop that helped the young Hynes link up with ex-Vampire Weekend multi-instrumentalist Rostam Batmanglij to produce Carly Rae Jepsen’s album, E•MO•TION; if you need any more proof of his chops, Hynes’ writing credits include Sky Ferreira’s “Everything is Embarrassing” and Solange’s “Losing You.”
In support of the surprise release of Freetown Sound, Hynes has dropped the visuals for “Augustine,” which feature young New Yorkers vogueing on rooftops interspersed with books alluding to the eponymous martyr, glossy pages covered with dancing black bodies, and magazine covers that allude to the death of Trayvon Martin.
