Together, Damien Hirst & Jeff Koons Talk to BBC Ahead of Joint Exhibition
The Hirst-curated Koon’s retrospect, “Now,” opened its doors yesterday.
Yesterday, marked the opening of the Damien Hirst-curated “Now” exhibition, solely featuring Hirst-owned Jeff Koons artwork. A rare pairing of contemporary art’s most influential names, the BBC was granted an exclusive interview with the two, and the back-and-forth between the artists was nothing short of magical. Hirst and Koons talk about their impact on culture, their respect for each other, and money in art, to which Damien stated, “I definitely don’t think it [money] should be considered a dirty word. And I think Andy Warhol made it okay for artists to deal with money. I think once that happen that you can’t make art without somehow taking it on board.”
“Now” is running at Hirst’s Newport Street Gallery until October 16.
