This Ultra-Thin LED Technology Can Be Pasted Onto Your Skin
Look for these in the techno-punk tattoos of the future.
The University of Tokyo’s Someya Group Transistor Lab has unveiled a groundbreaking technology in these LED displays that are wafer-thin and can be pasted like a second skin onto yourself. Only at three micrometers thick, the optoelectronic skin uses polymer LEDs and organic photodetectors to emit light, and this iteration is capable of running several days at a time with enough durability to be crumpled and still function perfectly. The researchers envision future uses in fitness and healthcare applications, but all we can see light-emitting tattoos based on this technology becoming the next divisive fashion trend of the near future.
