The Honda Civic Hatchback Prototype Hits the Big Apple

The five-door Civic Hatchback will come to North America next year for the very first time, so Honda took to this year’s New York Auto Show to show off a prototype of the upcoming vehicle. Hopefully a sign of what can be expected from the 2017 production model (which will be unveiled later this year), the prototype Civic echoes the stylish lines of the sedan and coupe, mimicking the likes of their front fascia and LED headlamps while sporting new fenders, two tailgate-mounted spoilers and a center-mounted dual exhaust system. Specs remain largely under wraps, but the production model will be built on the same platform as the sedan and boast a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that’s expected to produce about 174 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. That engine will be coupled to the driver’s choice of a six-speed manual or a continuously variable transmission.
