James Jean's Chinese New Year Installation With InterTrend
An interactive installation inspired by festive red packets.
With the start of Chinese New Year just days away, James Jean has teamed up with Long Beach’s InterTrend for the latest in a string of festive projects. This time around, the American artist — whose previous Year of the Monkey work includes a pigment-based ink print and collaboration with Beats by Dre — was inspired by the red packets handed out during the Spring Festival, and used the paper envelopes to cover the ground floor of the company’s building. The artwork itself will be unveiled tomorrow, when the red envelopes covering Jean’s piece — some of them containing special gifts — and a previously unreleased Psychic Temple print will be given away to the public.
