Samsung Wins a Huge Fight in Its War Against Apple

The company’s $548 million USD penalty could be reduced further.

Samsung may have won another battle in the war against Apple. The unanimous 8-0 Supreme Court decision states that any violation of Apple design patents made by Samsung can only involve components and not entire products. This means that the Korean company’s $548 million USD penalty for copying iPhone design elements could potentially be reduced. This would be another reversal in favor of Samsung in the longstanding beef. Chief Justice John Roberts noted that Samsung did not infringe on “all the chips and wires” during the case in October.

Although Samsung takes the ‘W’ in this battle, the war is still far from over. The case will now return to a lower court to determine a recalculated portion of profits that Samsung will have to pay to Apple. Stay tuned for updates on the case and let us know if you’re Team Apple or Team Samsung.
