President Barack Obama Stresses American Unity in His Post Election Speech
Following Donald Trump’s presidential victory.
President Barack Obama recently gave a speech regarding Donald Trump‘s presidential victory at the White House Rose Garden. With Vice President Joe Biden standing right beside him, Obama offered his sincere congratulations to the new president-elect as well as his admiration for Hillary Clinton and her campaign. Most importantly, however, the 44th president relayed an urgent call for unity regarding the American public. “We all want what’s best for the country. A sense of unity. A sense of inclusion. A respect for our institutions, our way of life, rule of law, and respect for each other,” he said. Having added: “I hope [Trump] maintains that spirit throughout this transition. I certainly hope that’s how his presidency has a chance to begin.”
Obama concluded his address by professing that he wanted “to make sure that the hand-off is well-executed as we’re all on the same team”—to strongly recapitulate the need for American unification and that Trump must do all he can to best serve his newfangled role as POTUS.
