SSAP was launched in New York in 2012 by Thai designer Mel Sangsomsap drawing from the diversity and cultural clashes of the city, and aims to redefine classic menswear with a radical yet wearable aesthetic. As of 2014, the brand has been based in Sangsomsap’s hometown of Bangkok, giving rise to SSAP’s Sakol Project which was established to promote the natural indigo dyes of Thailand. The project aims to preserve the centuries-old weaving and dyeing techniques found in the area of Sakolnakorn, a northeastern province of Thailand known for its indigo fabrics. SSAP’s 2016 Fall/Winter collection features a collection of menswear staples with a distinct Thai twist, which is most notable in the collection’s signature pieces such as a bomber jacket made from handmade indigo patchwork and a traditional robe made from handwoven indigo fabric. Check out the unique Thai heritage collection which is available now at SSAP NYC.
