Girl & Chocolate Skate Huge Quarterpipes in These "Pretty Sweet" Outtakes
“Filmed with nary a permit in sight.”
Girl and Chocolate’s skate video Pretty Sweet may have dropped back in 2012, but the film is still ahead of its time. Directed by Spike Jonze, whose camera-work includes long, dizzying, slow-motion takes filmed with drones, along with celebrity cameos from Jack Black and Will Arnett, and blink-and-you’ll-miss-them special effects, the film takes every Crailtap trope and dials them up to 11.
But all of the smoke and mirrors would be for naught if it weren’t for the sheer guts of the skaters. This newly-released outtake footage shows how some of the video’s famous intro shots were filmed using nothing but a flat-bed truck, a Vespa, and two monstrous quarter-pipes. No permits to film, no post-production effects; just speed and tenacity.
