Ai Weiwei Takes Over the Royal Academy of Arts With Powerful and Brave Works

His first major exhibition in the UK.

Renowned for exploring a range of contexts, scales and media, Chinese contemporary artist Ai Weiwei makes a return to London with a landmark exhibit at the acclaimed Royal Academy of Arts. Said to be his first major exhibition in the UK, the acclaimed artist will showcase significant works from 1993 until more recently, alongside ones that were created specifically for RA’s galleries and courtyard including a number of large-scale installations constructed from materials like marble and steel. Weiwei’s personal experiences in challenging conventional thought regarding creative freedom, censorship and human rights is reflected in these chosen works, while pieces examining modern-day Chinese art and society will also be on display. The exhibition runs until the December 13 at the Royal Academy of Arts.
