It all started with an exclusive series of Vans footwear for Disneyland’s Anaheim, California stores. Since then, the two have been fostering a friendship that has lasted since the ’70s, and have come together yet again in time for Disney’s 60th anniversary for a special Vans x Disney collection. With no better place to launch the collaboration than at Southern California’s Disneyland in Anaheim, where Vans opened its first ever retail store a mile away, the event kicked off with a launch speech from Steve Van Doren, son of Vans’ co-founder Paul Van Doren standing tall on a custom Sk8-Hi car clad in the new collection’s “Mickey & Friends” print. The day then ensued with a full tour of the park, where Vans staff and media guests ran awry sporting their inner kid and a few pieces of the new collection to add. Set for a June 5 release, the Vans x Disney collection — which ranges in footwear, apparel and accessories — features all the classic Disney favorites reappropriated like never before, with the likes of Winnie the Pooh skateboarding, Minnie wearing pink Vans Authentic lace-ups and Mickey sporting a pair of altered red Sk8-His among other designs found throughout; a true mix of the iconic Disney characters and Vans DNA.
