Minecraft has long dominated the field of independent sandbox video games, publicly hailed for its expandability – which allows users to imagine their own world with blocks. At a base level, LEGOs perform the same sort of function physically, an idea that has been touched on but never quite realized previously. It’s been rumored that LEGO was working on a competitor for Mojang’s hit game, and now the iconic block brand has unveiled the first draft of its version: LEGO Worlds. Released on Steam’s Early Access program, the game allows users to sculpt terrains, objects and other minutia as they see fit throughout the procedurally generated (peruse Engadget’s interesting explanation of that here). Although a lack of multiplayer functionality and some classic build sets means LEGO Worlds isn’t ‘finished’ per se, interested parties can head on to Steam’s site for a first taste of this landmark release.
