Tame Impala's Label Sued for Withholding Royalties

Last month in a Reddit AMA, Tame Impala frontman Kevin Parker disclosed that $450,000 USD worth of royalties had not been paid to him. Further investigation suggested that Modular, an Australian record label, and its owner Steve “Pav” Pavlovic may have been withholding the money, spending it without the consent of the band. Pavlovic, Modular, in addition to Universal Music Group and Universal Music Australia are now being sued by BMG, the rights management organization. BMG claims that Modular was granted a license that permitted them to distribute the band’s music, with royalties owed back quarterly. However, Modular failed to make these payments, and BMG is now suing. Universal Music Australia claims that they, along with Modular, were never in contact with BMG over the licensing of Tame Impala’s music, and that its former employee Pavlovic as the sole culprit.
