"Shift" Color-Changing Sneaker Concept
Creative technology company +rehabstudio has unveiled its latest concept for a smart surface

Creative technology company +rehabstudio has unveiled its latest concept for a smart surface sneaker that allows wearers to adjust design and color via a custom built mobile application. Following on from Nike’s constant experimentation with wearable technology, +rehabstudio has outdone many preceding designs and has the potential to mark a turnaround for today’s smart fabric market despite being a mere concept. As part of the studio’s monthly Hackweek Project, “Shift” is a culmination of attainable and future technologies that explore the potential of modern day apparel when combined with current knowledge. By exploring the technology that will one day inform its design, “Shift” is “An amalgamation of conductive and reactive textiles with adept fibers” that allow each sneaker to react and transform according to its surroundings. Design and color changes are proposed to work via a string of micro LED displays which coincide with conductive threads that react to motion and ultimately form the basis of this concept’s design.
