Located atop a hill in the sleepy village Castel of Emporeios on the volcanic island of Nisyros, Greece lies the Sterna Residence I, a 17th-century manor that recently got a makeover treatment. The interior holds minimalist contemporary design where clean, top-to-bottom all-white spaces feature a mix of simple, modern furniture amongst rustic detailing like framed windows, antique doorknobs and exposed piping in the bathrooms. The patio looks like an extension of the home’s sturdy stone walls and is equipped with modern white and beige outdoor furniture, and faces breathtaking ocean views and lush greenery. Home owner Greg Haji Joannides and Giorgos Tsironis designed the refurbishings themselves, and the Sterna Residence I is a great example of tasteful contemporary renovations that still respect the history of original structure.
